Project Overview
The purpose of this project is to reach out to the Black and newcomer communities in Winnipeg and beyond using proven techniques in media persuasion to counter disinformation regarding COVID-19 while at the same time building capacity and support for proven resources and increasing social cohesion.
- Discover which Media/Social sites the various demographics within the community are using to gain their information
- Discover what type of digital information format they find attractive/compelling
- Conduct a baseline survey on beliefs and information regarding COVID-19 to be contrasted with similar interview at the end of the project
Based on that information the objective will be to utilize community (or community allies) professionals to develop useful messages in relation to:
- various aspects of COVID-19 prevention/long term effects. i.e. MB guidelines (These will be medical professional, community animators and digital graphic designers)
- Once a concept graphic is developed then community cultural leaders will be engaged to adjust the nuances of information and translate any text into 2 – 3 basic community languages i.e. Somali, Arabic, Swahili, Amharic as well as English.
- Flexible templates will be created that can be updated with new text as conditions around or knowledge of COVID-19 changes.
